Volcanic and Hydrothermal Features are Popular Tourist Attractions

Active lava flows, Strombolian eruptions, Lava lakes, Fumaroles/ steam vents, Geysers, and Hot Springs, Boiling ponds, Sinter terraces, Boiling mud pools, and Crater lakes. These are a few examples of natural landforms and features of interest for volcano tourists. Because of the common and close relationship of volcanoes and geothermal springs both will be discussed on this web forum. Sulphur deposits around a steam vent in the crater of the volcano White Island/Whakaari, New Zealand. 

The cinder cone Eldfell in the small town of Heimaey  on the Westman Islands south of Iceland attracts visiting tourists who climb this relatively new hill (eruption and formation in 1973) from where the views are literally breath-taking, as the wind is usually strong and quite cold. 

Volcano tourists arrive by the busloads in the volcanic crater on the Greek island Nisyros. The hike down into the crater is not without risk - there are no safety rails along the track that leads into the crater, no is there any signage pointing out potential risks to visitors. The only guardrail is on top at the crater rim before the track that leads into the crater.
